Donna Joan McClellan, age 88, of Decatur, Iowa, the daughter of Kingsley and Alice Katheryn (Adlon) Bloom, was born July 17, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed away at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday, December 14, 2017.

Donna grew up and attended school in Des Moines. On July 15, 1947, she married Leonard Aaron “Bud” McClellan in Des Moines. She and Bud were blessed with three sons, Leonard Jay, Donald Lee, and Kelly Joe. Donna worked for Younkers and for Woltz photo studio in Des Moines, where touching up photos was her favorite job. In 1973, the family moved to Decatur, Iowa when Leonard was forced to retire due to ill health.

Donna loved children. She enjoyed volunteering at her church and helping the elderly and her friends. Donna and other church members, Carolgene Black, Ruth Scott, and Pat Bennett went to nursing homes in both Leon and Lamoni to sing and minister to the residents. She enjoyed making dinners for her family and attending family reunions. She gave her heart to Jesus in 1975, at the Decatur Assembly of God Church and remained a faithful member.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Leonard “Bud” McClellan, in 1988; her son, Leonard “Len” McClellan, in 2017; her brother, Terry Hainline; six sisters-in-law; and six brothers-in-law.

Survivors include her children, Don McClellan of Elkhart, Iowa and Kelly and Rosa McClellan of Decatur; four grandsons, Robert, Shawn, Michael, and Nickalis McClellan; nine great grandchildren; sister, Dixie McClelland of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Esther Ross and husband, Marion, of Florida; nieces and nephews; close friend, Linda Boothe of Davis City, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017, with Pastor Dale Short officiating. Donna will be buried next to her sweetheart, Bud, in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa.
