Obituary ~ Robert Cowl "Bob" Stewart

Robert Cowl Stewart, age 75, passed away on July 20, 2017, at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois after a three-year struggle with cancer. He is lovingly survived by his two children, Dan and Alyson Stewart of Park Ridge, Illinois and David Stewart and Stephanie Chamberlain of Denver, Colorado, four grandchildren, Hugh, Cole, McAllister, and Louge Stewart, his mother, Gene Stewart of Leon, Iowa, brothers, Bill and Carolyn Stewart of Chicago, Illinois and Jim and Julie Stewart of Glen Ellyn Illinois, sister, Suzanne Stewart of Tucson, Arizona, sister-in-law, Mary Stewart of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and nieces and nephews.

Bob, as he was known, was born in Leon, Iowa on December 31, 1941, to John Cowl and Mary Emmagene (Louge) Stewart. He graduated from Leon High School and then went on to the University of Iowa where he earned a Doctorate of Law degree in 1965. He was married in Iowa City, Iowa to Marilyn Leuz in 1964. They were happily married for 29 years until her passing in 1993.

Bob loved to live life and try new things. As a child, he was always busy riding horses, being an Eagle Scout, and playing his trombone. Later in life, he loved skiing, scuba diving, winetasting, tracking family genealogy, and taking trips to new places with his loving partner of 20 years, Mary Prow. Bob had several successful careers, he was county attorney of Decatur County, Iowa for ten years, a local futures trader at the Chicago Board of Trade, and then founder and president of a real estate management company for the remainder of his life.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Jack Stewart, in 1992 and his brother, Stephen Stewart.

A visitation will be held at Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. On Thursday, July 27th at 11:00 a.m. there will be a funeral service at Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home. Then Bob will be laid to rest by his wife, Marilyn, at the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa. Immediately after, there will be a celebration of Bob’s life with an open house at the Leon Country Club.
