Everett Lee Ross, age 87, of Leon, Iowa, the son of Dewey and Leota Mae (Hagen) Ross, was born August 2, 1929, in Decatur County, Iowa. He died at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa on July 12, 2017.

Everett grew up in the Mercer, Missouri area and attended elementary school there. He graduated from Leon High School in 1948. On November 27, 1950, he was inducted into the United States Army, serving in the Artillery division in the Triple Nickel Company during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on August 27, 1952.

On April 8, 1952, while on military leave he was married to Anna Rowena Dale in Leon, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Larry, Mary, and Terry. The family lived in Leon where Everett worked for Williams Bros. Pipeline, Wright Tree Service, and various construction jobs before settling at the Decatur County yard until they bought a farm. Everett farmed and had a cow and calf operation until the summer of 1999, when they moved to Osceola, Iowa. Everett and Rowena traveled and enjoyed retirement wintering in Arizona for several years. As their health started to fail, they lived in various assisted living facilities before Rowena passed away on April 24, 2016. Everett recently came back home to Leon.

Everett’s passions were gardening, giving away his produce, and his cattle. He and Rowena enjoyed playing cards in earlier years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and siblings, Faye Perks, Barbara Durell, Avery Jack Ross, and Ruth Feuring.

Survivors include his children, Larry and Trish Ross of Phoenix, Arizona, Mary Lund of Davenport, Iowa, and Terry and Laura Ross of Moorland, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Christian Ross and Scott Ross, both of Gilbert, Arizona, Kasie and Todd Johnson of Eldridge, Iowa, John Lund of Dubuque, Iowa, Jacob Lund of Davenport, Iowa, Brenda and Jeremy Goodner of Ankeny, Iowa, Symanntha and Curt Hiner of Rockwell City, Iowa, Heather Byrum of Callendar, Iowa, Michael and Katie Ross of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, and Matthew Ross of Mooreland, Iowa; great grandchildren, Madison and Emily Goodner, Lydia, Raelynn, and Frankie Hiner, Annalise and Miles Cobb, Grayson Ross, and two more expected soon; siblings, Peggy Corll of Leon, Iowa, Wendell and Judy Ross of Colfax, Iowa, and Shirley Grimm of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017. A rosary will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 6 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2017, with family receiving friends 6:30-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
