John “Jack” William Lyon, Jr., age 83, of Lamoni, Iowa, the son of John William and Crystal Mae (Beswick) Lyon, was born December 18, 1933, in Harrisonville, Missouri. He left this life on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at the Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa.

Jack grew up in Harrisonville, Missouri, Evergreen, Colorado, and then back to Harrisonville where he graduated from high school in 1952. He attended and graduated college from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. He served two years in United States Marine Corps from June of 1956, until his honorable discharge on April of 1958.

In 1956, while serving in the military, Jack married Shirley Janice Spillman. The couple was blessed with two children, Daniel and Elizabeth. Later Jack married Alta Delories (Williams) Sutherland.

Jack’s work was in road construction where he bid jobs as the cost estimator. He started out working for Tobin Construction in Kansas City, Missouri. He later lived in Texas. He finished his working career doing railroad track construction for Neosho. He moved to Lamoni, Iowa in 2015, and in May of 2017, into the Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa.

In his free time, Jack was an avid reader, jogger, and artist, doing sketching and painting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a currently a member of the Lamoni Baptist Church. He also was a Right to Life in Harrisonville, Missouri supporter.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his sister, Suzanne Day.

Survivors include his wife, Delories Lyon of Eads, Tennessee; children, Danny and Vickie Lyon of Rockwell, Texas and Elizabeth and Bob Bell of Lamoni, Iowa; grandchildren, Sky and Helen Lyon, Andrew Lyon, Christopher and Teal Bell, Bryan Bell, and Brandon and Maggie Bell; great grandchildren, Isabella, Adam, Blake, Lucas, and Brooklyn; brother-in-law, Harold Day of Harrisonville, Missouri; nephew, Brent Day; niece, Anissa Day; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services are pending with burial in the Crescent Hill Cemetery at Adrian, Missouri.

Slade-O'Donnel Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
