The John Hembry Family

William Hembry (d. 8-22-1875) and Eliza Roe were married (1857) at Paris, Canada. They moved to Dyersville, Ia., where their 7 children were born: George, Tyle, Fred, John, Sarah, Emma and Ada. They moved to Decatur Co. and settled on a farm SE of Grand River.

George went West and settled in Mont. Tyle, Fred and John stayed on the farm with their mother until they had their own farms.

John (d. June, 1941) married Nora Rauch (d. 12-28-69) on Nov. 5, 1899. They had 11 children.

Herman married Maxine Merrifield (6-3-28) and had 3 children. Herma Jean died in infancy; Jackie died at 3 1/2 years; Rose Eleanor taught school and married a lawyer.

Verda married Oscar Bucy (4-11-20) and had Wayne, Neva, Oscar, Jr., Marie and Juanita.

Raymond married Ethel Hutchcroft, had Wanda Lee who taught school; Donna Vee died at 2 yrs.; Larry became a beauty operator.

Freda moved West and married Paul Orgish, a coal miner. Their son, Jerry, died at the age of 18 and Billy married and became a law officer.

Melvin died at the age of 3 1/2.

Homer married Merlin Boord, had 6 children: Betty, stricken with polio at 19; Marvin, an accountant, married, lives in Des Moines; John, married, is a minister; Helen, married, 3 sons, lives on a farm south of Decatur; David, married, 2 children, lives in Ankeny; Joyce, married , an RN, 1 daughter, lives in OK.

James married Eva Moore, 2 children: Sharon and Richard.

Mary has been a stenographer in Washington D.C. until her retirement.

Edgar (d. 1977) stayed with his mother on the home place SE of Grand River until her passing. Edgar then married Ruby Cox and they lived in Van Wert.

Lois married Lawrence Wilson, 2 daughters: Nora and Rose.

Clifford married Margaret Buckingham, 7 children: Teresa, William, Mary Ann, Karen, Phyllis and Douglas.

Verda and Oscar lived in various places in Decatur Co. They lived in Kansas City, Mo. (1950-1955), then to their farm 5 mi. S of Grand River, then moved to Leon (1964). Their youngest son, Oscar, Jr., and wife, Juleen, (Herrington) moved from Ca. with their 4 children to live and farm S of Grand River at this time.
