CHARLES DALTON FENTON, M.D., has practiced medicine and surgery in Bloomfield, Iowa, since 1932 except for a period of service as captain in the United States Army during World War II. Dr Fenton was born July 15, 1904, in Davis County, the son of Hugh Taylor and Susetta (Vanlandingham) Fenton, both natives of Davis County. Dr Fenton’s father was for many years a farmer in Davis County and the last few years of his life was associated with the “Ottumwa Daily Courier.” He served as constable of his township. His death occurred on March 13, 1944, at the age of 61. Dr Fenton’s mother, who is 64, now resides in Bloomfield.
Charles Dalton Fenton grew up in Davis County, attended the rural schools there, and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1925. He then became a student at the University of Iowa, where he received the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1931, after which he interned at the W A Foote Memorial Hospital at Jackson, Michigan. On July 1, 1932 he began an active practice in Bloomfield and has practiced here successfully since that time except for his war service. Dr Fenton served 19 months overseas as a captain in the United States Army, spending all this time on the front in Europe with Engineer unit No. 371, Engineers Construction Battalion. Upon returning to Bloomfield he resumed his practice on January 1, 1946. Dr Fenton is allied professionally with the Davis County, Iowa State and American medical associations. He is a member of the American Legion, the Rotary Club and the Bloomfield Country Club, and fraternally is affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In Politics Dr Fenton is a Democrat, and since 1932 he has served as the coroner of Davis County.
On September 16, 1932, Dr Fenton was married to Elma Loraine Lister, the daughter of Ira, a retired farmer, and Loraine (Martin) Lister of Bloomfield. Mrs Fenton, a native of Davis County, is president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Post and an active member of Rebekah Lodge. Dr and Mrs Fenton have a daughter, Donna Lee, born June 10, 1934. The Fenton residence is at 107 South Bloomfield Street.
