Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Perry for Kirtland I. Piper, 87, of Perry.

He died Tuesday at the Perry Lutheran Home.

Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery.

Memorial services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Perry at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16 for Kirtland I. Piper, 87, of Perry.

He died at the Perry Lutheran Home on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Officiating was the Rev. Wayne Ahrens. Music was by organist Virginia White and Vocalist Gene Knepper.

Burial of the cremains was in Dexter Cemetery.

Kirt was born to John and Ella Meister Piper in Dexter on Dec. 6, 1913. He was united in marriage to Barbara Hover in Omaha, Neb. on Dec. 6, 1953. He moved from Dexter to Perry in 1964. He was a plumber for LeRoy’s Plumbing and Heating and Sighn’s Plumbing & Heating.

He was a former mayor of Dexter and a survivor during the shootout of Bonnie and Clyde.

Kirt served in the 34th Division of the United States Army in World War II.

He was a member of the Perry Chiefs Three Quarter Century Club.

Kirt was preceded in death by his parents and wife in 1995.

Survivors include a son John of Des Moines, a sister Helen Clausen of Dexter; and his companion Ivalee Arrowsmith of Perry.
