Helen Spencer - Perry

Helen Spencer, age 92 of Perry, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Community in Perry, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Perry, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery at Perry, IA. Memorials will be given to family and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Helen L. Spencer was born on May 20, 1925 at Osceola, Iowa to Harold and Anna Jane (Scott) Crannell. She graduated from Perry High School. Helen was united in marriage to Doyle Dwaine Spencer at Kansas City, Kan. on Dec. 17, 1946. She worked as a bookkeeper at Perry State Bank, Dennis & Partridge Lumber, Panora Co-op.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women’s Group. Together with Doyle, they travelled to various locations around the world. Helen enjoyed playing any type card games, putting puzzles together, cooking, cherishing her grandkids and enjoying her great grandkids.

In death she rejoins her husband Doyle Dwaine Spencer, parents, Harold and Anna Crannell, an infant son, son Craig Spencer in 1991, brother, Donald Crannell and her daughter-in-law, Judy Spencer.

Left to cherish Helen’s memory are her two sons, Harley (Carolyn) Spencer of Shelby, Iowa and Dennis of Lakewood, Colo., grandchildren, Lori Spencer of Henderson, Nev., Bridget Spencer of Oakland, Iowa, Clint (Angela) Spencer of Boulder City, Nev, Dawn (Marc) Cowell of Erie, Colo., Shelly Spencer of Lakewood, Colo., and Cheri (Jeff) McNeilly of Lakewood, Colo., great grandchildren, Dante Cowell, Jake Weirich, Cameron Schwab, Jeremy and Dylan Spencer and Kasen and Teagen McNeilly, brothers, Raymond (Glenna), Marshallton, Iowa, Larry (Linda) Adel, Iowa, and Roger Crannell, Minburn, Iowa and sisters, Doris Hamilton, Algona, Iowa, JoAnn (Keith) Knoack, Marshalltown, and Donna (Gary) Aklin of Harvey, Iowa.
