District Court News

District Court convened at Adel Tuesday with Judge Wilkinson on the bench. The grand jury were empanelled with L. M. Resser of this place as foreman. That body disposed of the case against Airhart, who was sent up from here about 60 days ago for keeping a house of ill-fame. The jury will not be in session longer than today, and will probably return a couple of indictments against Redfield parties that are held for stealing. The court granted divorces in the cases of Tribbey vs. Tribbey and Mortimer vs. Mortimer. The former case comes from Linn township and the latter from Dallas Center. In the former it is said that Mrs. Tribbey is already engaged to be married to a man she is keeping house for. Application was made and granted for the appointment of a guardian for Frank Liddle. The breach of promise suit mentioned last week between Van Meter parties was settled out of court, the Dr. paying the widow $500. Since the settlement it is rumored that after the Dr. got 49 of his burning love letters returned he felt so good that he bragged over it, and now further proceedings are threatened. The case of Ed. Cummings vs. the Rock Island for the injuries received at a crossing in the south part of town, is set for next Monday. A special venire of 15 jurors was issued yesterday to appear Monday.
