JOHN H. HOFF (Biographical Data Entry): B: 11 Apr 1830 Chesterhill, Washington, Co., OH, D: 31 Mar 1909 Dallas Co.,IA). He married MARY ANN AKINS (1833-1907) in 11 Mar 1855 in Des Moines, IA. He was one of the 12 children of POWELL HOFF (13 Aug 1801 Prince William Co., VA - 6 May 1870 Dallas Co., IA)& MARTHA BREWSTER (28 Aug 1802 Ostego Co., NY - 28 Jan 1892 Dallas Co., IA). JOHN H. & MARY ANN AKINS HOFF had 8 children:
1. JOHN CASSIUS HOFF (5 Mar 1875 Dallas Co., IA - 10 Mar 1960 Des Moines, IA);
2. JESSIE HOFF(1872-1888);
3. CHARLES WORTH HOFF(1880-1947);
4. WILLIAM HOFF(1855- ? );
5. OSCAR "SHORTY" HOFF (1858 - 1941 Br. Co., Canada);
6. MARTHA ETTA HOFF (DAVISON)(1865-1939);
7. KATE HOFF (CAMPBELL)(1860-1929); and,
8. HILY HOFF (Died in inancy).

JOHN H. HOFF, then age 12, moved with his parents to Rochester, IL where POWELL purchased 4,000 acres in 1842, and sold-off lots in parcels. In 1853, then at age 23 they moved again to homestead new land and farmed nearby his father POWELL in Dallas Co., IA. JOHN H. HOFF and father, POWELL farmed separately in adjacent Townships in Dallas Co. The family homestead is now the site of the DSM Golf & Country Club. JOHN H. HOFF is buried in the Waukee Cem., IA with his 3 daughters and wife MARY ANN AKINS (B: Indiana 1833 - died Waukee, IA) nearby are the plots of her parents, NATHANIEL and AMANDA ATKINS (note spelling differences) and several siblings.
