John Henry Peitzman was born in Beardstown, IL. on Feb 3, 1870 and moved with his family in 1872 to the family home in Dallas Co. IA. He grew to manhood here and on Nov 19, 1895, he was married to Clara Elizabeth Foltz and they started farming on an adjacent farm in Dallas Co. where 3 of their children were born-Eva Irene in 1897, Earl Lee in 1899 and Viola Luella in 1902. In 1904, they moved to a farm near Mt. Vernon, SD, where their two other children were born, Gladys Marie in 1906 and Ralph Ervin in 1908. Due to failing health, he moved his family back to Iowa in 1909, purchasing a farm 2 miles northwest of Grimes, IA. He died on Jan 25, 1911, leaving his wife with 5 children, ranging in age from 2 to 14 years. Mother continued to farm, had lots of milking cows and she raised hogs to send to market. Later, she bought a house in Grimes and when son, Earl married in 1936, she moved to Grimes.
