Virginia Kay Petersen, 46, died Thursday of cancer at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 30 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig.

Virginia Yockey was born in Charter Oak to John and Lorene (Shear) Yockey. She graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1962. From November 1962 to July 1965, she lived in Schleswig; from 1965 to 1984, she lived in Carroll and was employed as a clerk at Safeway. She moved to Ames in 1984 and was employed as a clerk at Sears Roebuck and Company.

On November 3, 1962, she married Robert Petersen in Charter Oak. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ames.

Survivors include her husband Robert; two sons, Steven Petersen of Omaha, Nebraska, and Brian Petersen of Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Carolyn Carr of Hornick and Marlen McCage of Columbus, Ohio; one granddaughter, and her father, John Yockey of Smithland.
