Ernest Carl Ullerich, Jr. was born March 22, 1929, the son of Ernest and Remda Ullerich, Sr. He died Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Oakwood Speciality Care in Albia, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven.
Ernie was born in Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized into Christ on April 21, 1929 and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 18, 1943. He received his education in the Charter Oak Community Schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1947. He continued his education at Iowa State University in Animal Science and the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he graduated from their school of business with the class of 1966. He also attended Creighton University in Omaha. During and after receiving his education, he worked on the farm, helping his family and worked for a time in California, including a ranch near Paso Robles. In the late 1960's, he returned to Crawford County and continued farming for over fifteen years. In 1986, he joined the USDA and was a federal meat inspector, a job he did until retiring in 1999. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Lahr, September 3, 1971 in Omaha, Nebraska. Making their home near Charter Oak, the couple was blessed with the birth of six children. In his leisure time, Ernie enjoyed fine dining, reading mysteries, listening to music, going to auctions, and socializing with family, friends, and strangers. He liked flying and owned a Piper Tri-Pacer for a time, once flying down to Costa Rica with a group of local farmers. He especially enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Europe and throughout the U.S. with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Clinton. Survivors include: four sons, Carl and his wife, Maria; Clark and his wife, Kelley; Clayton and his wife, Eve; Chris and his wife, Lisa; and one daughter, Cyndi; two grandchildren, Heimiri and Grace; one brother, Henry and his wife, Mary; and one sister, Julie and her husband, Jim ; other relatives and many friends.
