FIRE-Last Saturday evening, about 5 o’clock, Mr. J. C. Burke, living near the depot, discovered his hay stack to be on fire. The alarm was given but before assistance arrived the flames had reached the stable and were under to great headway to be extinguished, although about one hundred men were on the ground. The result was the loss of the stable , several rods of fence, six tons of hay, and about one hundred bushels of forty-cent corn, besides considerable damage to fruit trees. Loss between $400 and $500, and no insurance. The house was with difficulty saved. After the fire Mr. H. H. Westcott stepped up and told Mr. Burke that the best he could do for him was to give home posts and poles enough to build a new stable, and would go to the timber with him and help haul them-a very worthy act for these hard times.
