Miss Julia Kelly was born in DeWitt March 12, 1863, received her education in the public and parochial school of this place. She later attended school at Shenandoah, Ia., and University of Chicago. She taught in the rural school of this county and began teaching her first grade schools in Arcadia and Dallas Center, after which she was elected to the principalship of Lincoln school in Des Moines and held that position for eleven years, when she on account of ill health, returned to DeWitt and has since made her home with her mother, Mrs. Katherine Kelly. The funeral which was private was held yesterday morning at 10 o'clock from the house. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery beside her father and brother. Those who acted as pall bearers were: M. Murphy, Dennis Donegan, Frank Byrnes, T. W. Kelly, J. J. McDermott and Thos. Dignan.
