Gertrude C. Petersen, 23, passed away Friday, June 22, 1894, at her farm home in rural Clinton County.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 25, from the Petersen home. Burial will be in Andover Cemetery, Andover, Iowa.

Gertrude Catharina Hansen was born August 14, 1870, in Strukkamp, Island of Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Christian and Mathilda (Hinrichsen) Hansen. She came to the United States in 1881 with her parents and settled on a farm in Clinton County, Iowa. She received her education in the Clinton County schools. She married Hans Henry Petersen in 1884. Together they farmed in Clinton County. He also worked with a local creamery as milk collector.

Surviving are her husband, Hans; one son, John Petersen, at home; her parents, Christian and Mathilda Hansen of Loup City, NE; three sisters, Amelia (Otto) Petersen and Anna Hansen and Louise Hansen, all of Loup City, NE; and two brothers, Peter (Rachael) Hansen and Nickalous (Pauline) Hansen, both of Loup City, NE.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Hansen and one brother, Christian Hansen, both in Germany.
