Death claimed an aged Clinton county husband and wife Friday, Mrs. Robert Wilson Griswold passed away at 7:30 o'clock on that morning and at 11:30 o'clock at night her husband followed her in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Griswold were each about 80 years of age, and lived with their only son, Joseph Griswold, one half a mile south of Low Moor. The wife's death was due to a general break-down owing to her advanced age. Had she lived until August 6th of this year she would have reached the age of 80 years. Mr. Grisowld's death was caused by an attack of pneumonia. His eightieth birthday would have come on May 10th this year.

Both of the aged people were born in New York state, and spent their youth in the east. They had lived in Clinton county for more than 40 years and for many years resided on their farm. Two years ago they removed to their son's residence near Low Moor.

The remains of the husband and wife will be laid to rest in one grave next Sunday afternoon. The funeral service will be held at the home at one o'clock on that afternoon.

Low Moor, Iowa, April 4--The community of Low Moor was greatly shocked to learn of the passing away of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Griswold. It was known that these aged people were in poor health, but few people of the community realized that the end of life's journey was so near at hand.

For fifty five years they have walked together up the hill of life and descended its western slope and as the sun was setting they laid down in their final sleep within sixteen hours of each other. Certainly this is a very unusual occurrence, yet it was what they both desired.

Martha Jannette Griswold, who died first, was born in Jefferson county, New York, August 1, 1834, and died at their home at 7:30 a.m. March 31st aged eighty-one years, seven months and thirty days. When sixteen years of age she moved with her parents to Waukegan, Lake county Illinois.

Robert Wilson Griswold was born in Essex county, New York, and died at their home at 11:30 p.m., March 31st, aged eighty years, eight months and twelve days. When he was twenty years old he emigrated to the west and located in Lake county, Illinois. There these young people met and loved and were married June 11th, 1861. In the fall of the same year they moved to Mantorville, Minnesota, where they resided until 1874 when they returned to Iowa locating at Clinton, where they lived until the year 1891. From here they moved to their new home near Low Moor, where they lived until 1900, when they moved to Camanche, where they remained until 1914, when because of old age and poor health they returned to the old homestead where they died.

Mrs. Griswold is survived by one sister, who resides at Aurora, Illinois. Mr. Griswold was the last member of his father's family. They leave to mourn their loss one son, Joseph Lyman and six grandchildren.

It will be seen from the above that these people were pioneers in these great states of the central west and have contributed to the material and social upbuilding of the communities in which they have lived. This community owes these old and respected people a debt of gratitude for their contribution of life and labor in the making of the community.

Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. P. N. Dwello, of the Methodist church of Low Moore at one o'clock Sunday afternoon. They were laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery at Camanche.
