David William Miller, 87, of Dubuque, Iowa, and formerly of Maquoketa, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at ManorCare in Dubuque, Iowa.

Graveside military rites and burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 17, 2018, at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Delmar, Iowa. There is no public visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

David William Miller was born on September 10, 1931 in Spragueville, Iowa, to Russel Wilbur and Winnifred Lauretta (Gannon) Miller. He attended school in Preston and later received his Associates Degree while living in Washington D.C. following a 13-year military career, earning a Bronze Star. He had served in both the Marine Corps and the Army.

Upon receiving an honorable discharge, David retired from the Federal Government in Washington D.C., and then worked as maintenance man at several apartment buildings in D.C.

David was a member of the Elmer H. Brown Spragueville American Legion Post #590 and the Andrew AMVETS Post #62. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting and his beloved dog Leah. He was especially proud of being a veteran and his military service becoming a Quilt of Valor recipient on November 6, 2016.

He is survived by sisters-in-law, Corrine Miller of Delmar, IA, and Margaret Mary "Peg" Miller Maquoketa, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Leona (Leo) Jessen, Mildred Miller, Marcella (A.D.) Rohse, Russell Miller, John L. Miller, James D. Miller and Paul D. (Patricia) Miller.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Jackson County Humane Society or the Jackson County Veterans Memorial Park.
