The Clinton Semi-Weekly Age, Mar 29, 1901 Page 1
John Louis Schamel, the well known and respected conductor on the North Western answered the last summons at his home, 419 Third avenue, Wednesday morning at three o'clock. The end had been expected for some time but will nevertheless be greatly regretted by his many friends residing in this city and elsewhere. The death was the result of an attack of the grippe contracted about three months ago, which developed in quick consumption.
The deceased was 52 years of age having been born at Hagerstown, Md. He has been a resident of Clinton for about 25 years, coming here at that time and entering the employ of the North Western railroad company. He has most of this time been a freight and passenger conductor and has filled his position with honesty and fidelity. He was married 17 years ago to Miss Emma Hollingsworth of Mt. Carmel, Ill., who survives him with two children. Henry Schamel of McCook, Neb., and Samuel Schamel of Milledgeville, N. Y., two brothers also survive him.
The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3:30 from the residence and will be attended by Emulation Lodge A. F. & A. M. of which he was a member.
