Obituary for Lois H. Marshall
Lois H. Marshall, 88, of Clinton passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Mercy Living Center North in Clinton. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Miles Presbyterian Church in Miles, Iowa with an hour visitation held prior to the service. Burial will take place in the Miles Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Miles Presbyterian Church or the 2nd District American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Fund in Lois’ memory.

Lois was born in Clinton on October 19, 1929, the daughter of Frank and Viola (Jess) Rittmer. Lois was a graduate of Miles High School, class of 1947. She married Harlan Andersen on October 30, 1948 in Clinton. They had five children. Harlan was killed in a truck accident on April 20, 1968 in Dubuque County. She later married Ralph J. Marshall on March 29, 1975 in Nashua. Lois worked for the Nielsen Clearing House in Clinton, she later worked for the Sabula Speaker Factory in Sabula, Iowa. Lois also worked for the Miles High School Miles, where she retired after six years as a Secretary to the Superintendent.

Lois was a member of Miles Presbyterian Church and Spencer-Cook American Legion Auxiliary #677 of Miles, of which she held many offices, including Unit President, Jackson County President, 2nd District from 1983-84, and Iowa Department Historian from 1985-86.

Lois’ life revolved around her family. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grand-children most of all. She always put family first. She enjoyed going to the sporting events and school programs of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always very supportive and giving of her time to those she loved. Lois also enjoyed reading, camping, doing seek-a-word, and playing euchre with Woodlands Apartment friends, and she was an avid Cubs baseball fan.

She is survived by her two daughters, Judy (John) Boothby of Miles, IA, Vickey (Gary) Sander of Andover, IA; three sons, Michael (Kathy) Andersen of Preston, IA, Lonny (Cindy) Andersen of Rising Sun, MD, and Paul (Karla) Andersen of Morrison, IL; 9 grandchildren; 1 step grandchild; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Lorraine Tietjens, of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harlan; husband Ralph; and brother Earl Rittmer.
