Myrtle Ruth Ihrig, 96, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday morning, January 12, 2018, at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.

A celebration of Myrtle's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 15, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 A.M. A private burial will held at a later date from the Elwood, Iowa Cemetery.

Myrtle Ruth Waugh was born on October 18, 1921, to Edwin and Hermina (Ketelsen) Waugh on a farm near Elwood. She was a 1939 graduate of Elwood High School. She married Paul Walker in 1941 and to this union a daughter Janet was born. They later divorced. On January 12, 1951 she married Harold Ihrig in Dubuque, Iowa. They farmed at Iron Hill until his death January 17, 1988.

Myrtle enjoyed genealogy, gardening, and making braided rugs. She was also a writer, writing many short stories, and a book about her wonderful memories growing up with all of her cousins, aunts and uncles in "Waughtown". She was very proud of her family and loved spending time with them.

She was a member of the East Iron Hill Community Church and Ladies Aid, and a former member of the Maquoketa Garden Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Stange of Maquoketa, IA; five grandchildren, Laurie (Charles Jennissen) Stange of Shueyville, IA, Lisa (Jon Davidson) Stange of W. Des Moines, IA, Jeff (Kathleen Till Stange) Stange of W. Des Moines, IA, Dianne (Ian) Gutterman of Elmhurst, IL, and Brenda (James) Van Keuren of Mt. Airy, MD; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Joan Waugh of San Jacinto, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother LaVern Waugh, sisters Bernice Schepers and Vera Schepers, and her son-in-law Dennis Stange.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the East Iron Hill Community Church or Hospice of Jackson County.
