Dick A. King, 79, of Clinton, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2017, after a short illness at Mercy Medical Center - North Campus. Dick was born on November 6, 1937, in Middletown, Iowa, the second son of Howard and June (Bailey) King. Funeral services will be at Noon, Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Friends may call from 10 am to Noon Thursday at the funeral home. Luncheon after the service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be Shinar-Cumberland Cemetery in Pleasant Grove, Iowa, on Friday, 11 am.
Dick was a graduate of Danville High School. On his family farm, he raised capon chickens throughout high school. Dick married his high school sweetheart Barbara Stucker on August 31, 1959, in Pleasant Grove, Iowa. He attended Parsons College on a partial football scholarship in Fairfield, Iowa. He taught high school physics and mathematics at Olds, Iowa and Gooselake, Iowa. During the summers he worked construction where he learned the roofing trade. After his wife died in 1975, he stopped teaching and worked construction full-time. He loved to write, dance and walk. His passion in life was to help others in need and would go out of his way to serve them. He built his own solar paneled heating and cooling system in the mid-70s. Engineered and designed his own boat and hand glider.
Dick enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends at Pathways and Park Towers. He is survived by three sons: Carey King of Burlington, Iowa, Jeff(Sandy)King of Clinton, Iowa, Dale (Linda) King of Anamosa, Iowa, a daughter: Renee (Chris) Manders of North Liberty, Iowa, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Bruce (Berta) King of New London, Iowa, Royce King of Burlington, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
