Waltin Olson 03/13/2001 CALAMUS, Iowa -- Waltin Olson, 80, Calamus, died Monday morning, March 12, at DeWitt Community Hospital. Service of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Calamus. The Rev. Armin Weng will officiate. Burial will be in Our Savior Kvindherred Cemetery. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. today at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Waltin was born, May 15, 1920, in Calamus, the son of Waltin and Jennie (Larson) Olson. He was a graduate of Calamus High School and attended Iowa State University. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a first lieutenant in the Medical Unit in Scotland. Waltin married Betty Weber on March 8, 1980. He farmed his entire life in rural Calamus until retirement in 1985. Mr. Olson was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Calamus. He was active in 4-H as the Club Show Director, as well as raising and judging angus cattle. Waltin also raised champion pointer hunting dogs. He was a member of the Springbrook Country Club, and served as a past director of the former Union Savings Bank of Grand Mound and Calamus and the First National Bank of Clinton. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or DeWitt Community Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Betty; a stepdaughter, Barbara, and her husband, Maynard Schmidt, Ottumwa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Noel and Miriam Olson, Calamus, and Joel and Kay Olson, Grand Mound; a sister and brother-in-law, Cleone and Winston McCulloh; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and many beloved special nieces and nephews. Waltin was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jenora. Pallbearers will be Steve Olson, Tom Olson, Mark Olson, Dion Olson, Jim McColloh and Brian McColloh.
