Clayton County Register, Thur., 13 Oct. 1932. Strawberry Point column.

John O. Daniels, son of Amos and Sarah Jane Daniels, was born in Sperry township, Clayton county, Iowa, May 5, 1861, and died at Mercy hospital, Oelwein, Oct 5, 1932, at the age of 71 years, four months and four days. His entire life was spent in Clayton and Fayette counties.

At the age of four years he moved with his parents from the farm in Sperry township to their farm in Putnam township, Fayette county, where they lived until 1908, when they moved to Strawberry Point. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George A. Daniels, and step-mother, Mrs. Mary F. Truman Daniels. After the death of his father, he, together with his brother George, maintained the family home, together with the mother, all living together most happily. After the death of Mrs. Daniels the two brothers continued to live in the family home until the final separation in 1930. He loved his home and continued to live in it until as a last hope for recovery he consented to be removed to the hospital, where he passed away. During the last months of his life he was a great sufferer, bearing his affliction most patiently. He was a lover of children and was a loyal and devoted friend, a kind neighbor. The simple life, the good and true always appealed to his retiring nature. Because he disliked eulogy, much is being left unsaid. His memory will be cherished by many for whom he did substantial deeds of kindness in sickness and need. He never turned a friend away who needed help without a feeling of deep regret. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. J. Elwick, pastor of the Methodist church. The pall bearers were: Eugene Sager, B. W. Talcott, Fred Talcott, Wm. Manchester, W. H. Whitmarsh and John Tracy. Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery.
