Robert W. Conrad, the son of Harry J. and Jessie Wilke Conrad, was born June 13, 1922, at Elkader, Iowa, and died in a plane crash in New York's East River, February 4, 1959.

Robert was baptized and confirmed in the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church, Elkader, and as a young man was very active in all church activities. He graduated from the Elkader high school and the University of Iowa, where he obtained his bachelor of arts degree in 1947 and law degree in February, 1949. He also had taken part time study there while a member of the Army Air Corps from October, 1942, to June, 1943.

His friends have started the Robert W. Conrad Scholarship Fund at the Iowa Law School, which amounts to over $3,000 at the present time.

Robert worked for the government since 1949 as a clerk with the Veterans Administration claims examiner for the Post Office department, and on January 29, 1951, joined the Federal Trade Commission and was assigned to the Washington field office, where he had been since, except for an assignment with the Cleveland office from July, 1954, to September, 1955.

He lived for a time in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Ohio, and at the time of his death resided at Falls Church, Va.

Robert was married to Agnes Botelho on September 12, 1953, at Chevy Chase, Md. His wife is a graduate of the Catholic University of America with a degree in public health.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 72, Elkader and the Federal Bar Association.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1955, and is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. Jessie Conrad, and a sister, Edith, Elkader.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 9, at the Peace United Church of Christ, Evangelical and Reformed, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating.

Burial was at the East Side cemetery. Pallbearers were: George Schmidt, Robert Allen, Herbert Katschkowsky, William Katschkowsky, Don Witt and William Witt.
