Funeral services for Roy William Engelhardt Sr. were held at the family residence in Wagner township at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon and at the Norway Lutheran church at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiated. Burial was in the Norway cemetery with the American Legion in charge of the graveside services.

Roy William Engelhardt Sr., son of Charles and Minnie (Taake) Engelhardt was born Sept. 2, 1895, on the Engelhardt farm near St. Olaf, Iowa. His entire life was spent in and around St. Olaf. He was employed by the White Star Oil Co. for 12 years, and for many years farmed the home farm.

Four years ago he moved to the Theodore Wold farm west of St. Olaf where he died suddenly and unexpectedly Friday, May 22, 1953.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Farmersburg church being a member of the first class to be confirmed in the new St. John's Lutheran church. Since his marriage he has been a member of the Norway Lutheran church.

He was married Sept. 26, 1928, to Lillie Ruth Wold. To them were born two children, Roy William Jr. at home, and Ruth Clarice, a senior student nurse at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was a veteran of World War I, serving in France in Field Hospital Co. 351 of the 88th division. Since his discharge from military service he has been an active member of the American Legion Post No. 388 of St. Olaf.

Those who survive besides his wife and children are a sister, Pearle Louise Waldo of Encino, Calif.; a brother Charles of Lake Norden and Fred of Clinton. Those who preceded him in death were his parents; his brothers George, Otto and Hugo; and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Buck and Ella.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Buck, Des Plaines, Ill.; LeRoy Buck, Dearborn, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Buck, Ames, Iowa; Mrs. Herbert Engle, Wilmette, Ill.; A. T. Wold and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Wold, Rolfe, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Wold, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Eggelston and Mrs. Anna Wold, St. Ansgar, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Chellis Evanson and Miss Joyce Harris of Decorah, Iowa; Miss Nance Lamb, Miss Shirlee Cox, Miss Pat Bean, Miss Rita Lund, Miss Joan Schoeneman, Miss Willie Smith, Miss Joanne Gundacker and Miss Nancy Jacobs, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Pallbearers were: Floyd Orvis, Elmer Wilke, F. R. Feller, Wm. Reardon, Alonzo Engelhardt and Philmon Embretson.
