Funeral services were held for Mrs. Patrick Downey at St. Joseph's Catholic church, Elkader, at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 31. The Rev. Daniel Gorman officiated. Burial was at St. Joseph's cemetery.

Mrs. Downey, having reached the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 23 days, died Friday afternoon August 28, 1953. She had been in failing health for the past year and a half.

Mrs. Kathryn (Dinan) Downey was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Dinan and was born May 5, 1868, at Littleport, Iowa. She received her education in the rural and town schools.

On January 12, 1893, she was united in marriage to Patrick Downey. They farmed on the same place for 53 years, where she died. Four children were born to this union: Monica, who died at the age of one year; Harold J., on the home farm; Anastasia, Mrs. Leo Cassutt and Lawrence P. Downey of Cresco.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church and Women's Catholic Order of Foresters. She was a seamstress, and housewife.

Surviving are her husband, Patrick, and the afore mentioned children, also seven grandchildren, a brother, Lawrence Dinan, of Littleport, and a sister, Mrs. James McTaggart, of Strawberry Point.

Pallbearers were relatives of the deceased: Jack Donlon, Stephen Donlon, Gerald Dinan, Joe Hoover, Stephen Leonard and John Dinan.
