Arlene Sass died on Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Prairie Maison Nursing Facility in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin following a long illness. She was 81 years of age. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa with Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial was in the Gooding Cemetery in rural Farmersburg, Iowa.

Arlene Marie Florence was the daughter of Alvin A. Johanningmeier and Amanda Backhaus. On February 21, 1946 Arlene married Donald George Sass. They were the parents of 5 sons: Jerome, James, Ronald, Richard, and Robert.

NOTE: This was not a full obituary but when her husband passed away in 2011, his obituary listed that he had 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
