Clayton County Register, Thur., 27 June 1935. Strawberry Point column.
The death of John Frederick occurred last Tuesday afternoon after a lingering illness, the last three weeks of which he was confined to his bed. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Emanuel Lutheran church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Max O. Jahr. Six of his nephews were pall bearers: John Frederick, William Nodurft, William Frederick, Ben F. Kleinlein, Conrad Kleinlein, and Charles Waring. Interment was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
John, second eldest son of Otto and Katherine Frederick, was born at Schenectady, N.Y., August 5, 1851. In March, 1868, he came to Iowa with his parents, settling at St. Sebald, where he was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Gorman. On August 31, 1874, he was united in marriage to Amelia Loesch. To this union three children were born; one daughter, Ida, now Mrs. Al Glazier of St. Paul; two dying in infancy. January 6, 1880, Mrs. Frederick passed away. On September 14, 1881, he was married to Elizabeth Mueller. The home was made on a farm northwest of town and many hardships were endured. The lumber was hauled from McGregor to build his house and granary. Mr. Frederick would either take his pork to McGregor or Dubuque. Sometimes, the weather being bad, he would remain a week before he could return. Nineteen years ago they moved to Strawberry Point where he has since resided. Mrs. Frederick passed away Aug. 28, 1928. Surviving are nine children; Mrs. Ida Glazier of St. Paul; Mrs. Julia Feulner, Louis Frederick, Mrs. Amelia Tracy, George Frederick, Walter Frederick, Mrs. Hilda Nodurft and Elmer Frederick, all of Strawberry Point, and John Frederick of Arlington. There are seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, also four sisters and two brothers; Mrs. Elizabeth Nodurft of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Julia Manning and Mrs. Mary Milheim of Oelwein, Mrs. Eliza Waring and Charles Frederick of Strawberry Point and Chris Frederick of Volga.
