Mrs. Aletta B. Laird was born in Cass County, Mich., on Sept. 21, 1869. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Clelland.

In February, 1913, she came to Elkader and was married to George W. Laird. She made her home here until two years ago. During these past two years she has been in very poor health, and has undergone some serious surgical operations. She and her husband returned to Elkader this spring to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Laird.

About two weeks ago she again became seriously ill, and last Tuesday afternoon, June 4, she passed away. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Vernon Miller of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. Allister White of Regina, Sascatchewan, Canada, and two sons, Burton Zimmerman of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Donald Laird of Madison, Wis. She also leaves three brothers, Guy Clelland of Chicago, and Earl and Clyde Clelland of Portland, Ore.

She was a member of the Service Star Legion and the Elkader Congregational Church. The funeral service was held at the Congregational church on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial was made at the East Side cemetery.
