Bernard Hurley died at his home in Volga, Sunday evening, May 12, at the age of 68 years, ten months and nine days, after an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Hurley was born July 3, 1867, on a farm in Highland township, where he resided until 25 years of age. He then went to Woodbine, Iowa, where he followed the trade of a mason. Here he met and married Mrs. Mary Schuler on February 26, 1901. Seventeen years ago they moved to Volga City and have since made their home here.

Barney, as he was familiarly called, will be missed on the streets here where he was seen daily until the last few weeks when illness kept him confined to his home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at ten o'clock. Burial was made in the Volga cemetery. The casket was borne by four brothers and two nephews: Michael, Jerry, Tim C., Jack and Joe Hurley and William Roethler.

He is survived by his bereaved widow, six sisters, Mrs. Margaret Smith of Santa Ana, Calif., Mrs. Ellen Cary, Mrs. Agnes Striegel and Mrs. Anna Burns of Chicago, Mrs. Catherine Rothler of Elkader, and Mrs. Stella Conley of Volga; four brothers, Michael of Elkader, Tim C. of Elma, Jerry of Bankston, Jack of Volga; a step-daughter, Mrs. Cora Borden of Hecla, S.D., and a step-son, Arthur Schuler of Casper, Wyo., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Cora Borden and sons, Charles and William, daughter Mrs. Ray Hewitt, and her daughter, Mary Lou, all of Hecla, S.D.
