Clayton County Register, Thur., 28 Mar. 1935. Guttenberg column.

Herman C. A. Hamann, of Garnavillo, well-known, highly-regarded, life-long resident of Clayton county, passed away at the Dr. C. W. Palmer hospital in Guttenberg Sunday morning, at the age of 73 years and 14 days. He had been ill for some time previous and Friday evening submitted to an operation at the hospital here.

Soon after his death, the body was taken to his home at Garnavillo, for burial. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. G. Bunge, of St. Peter's Lutheran church, at Garnavillo, Wednesday afternoon, with burial in the Garnavillo cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.

Mr. Hamann was born on a farm in Read township, Clayton county, Iowa, on March 10, 1862, a son of Mr. and Mrs. August Hamann (both deceased), pioneer settlers of Clayton county. In April, 1886, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Koss of Garnavillo, who preceded him in death a number of years ago. For many years Mr. Hamann was successfully engaged in farming and the livestock industry in Farmersburg township. Of late years he was a resident of Garnavillo. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran church. In politics he was a democrat. His death is deeply mourned by three sons, Glendor F. of Farmersburg township; Arthur O. of Dubuque, and Herman A. of Garnavillo; one daughter, Mrs. Albert Schlake of Garnavillo township; a number of grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed.
