Grodland - Joslin marriage - 1935

Miss Emily Joslin was married to Merle E. Grodland of Graettinger, Iowa, at 3:30 Saturday afternoon in the First Methodist church in Monona. The pastor, the Rev. Louis H. Joslin, used the double ring ceremony in the presence of 400 friends and relatives. The bride was given away by her brother, Scott S. Joslin. Miss Edith Sarah Joslin of Chicago, sister of the bride, attended her as maid of honor, and Miss Verna Grodland of Graettinger, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Viola Mehlhaus of Dysart were the bridesmaids. Little Jane Elizabeth Joslin, younger sister of the bride, was ring bearer. Mr. Dale Noble of Graettinger was best man, and Mr. Dave Irwin of Traer and Harry Helgeson of Wallingsford, were the ushers.

A reception was held after the ceremony in the church parlors. After a short honeymoon the young couple will spend the summer in Cedar Falls, where the bridegroom will attend summer school, and in the fall will be located at Havelock, Iowa, where the bridegroom will be principal of the high school.

Mrs. Grodland is the second daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Louis H. Joslin, is a graduate of the local high school and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Coe college, Cedar Rapids, 1n 1934. She was affiliated with Alpha Gamma Delta national sorority while there. For the past year she was music supervisor at the Lone Rock, Iowa, schools.

The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Grodland of Graettinger, Iowa, from which high school he graduated in 1929 and attended State Teachers college in Cedar Falls. He was athletic coach at Lone Rock the past year.
