The following social item, which will be of interest to many local people, appeared in the July 2d issue of the Mason City Globe-Gazette:

The Congregational church was the scene of a pretty June wedding Sunday afternoon, when Miss Jean Matthews, North Third Street, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Matthews, became the bride of Dr. LeRoy Knutson of Elkader, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Knutson.

Preceding the ceremony were several piano numbers by Mrs. Harry Conklin, of Osage, sister of the bride. Jack Conklin, nephew of the bride, sang two numbers. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers which had been arranged by Mrs. R. C. Ingersol, Mrs. L. E. Ashlund and Mrs. F. L. Knutson.

The Rev. Homer E. Blough, pastor of the Congregational church, performed the single ring ceremony. J. Nicholas Kiebel, of Chicago, a fraternity brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. Ushers were Keith Raw and George Foust. Bridesmaids were the Misses Thelma McMullen and Arloven Kugler. Miss Matthews appeared on the arm of her father, B. H. Matthews. The bride wore a white net veil bought in Cairo, Egypt, and worn by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Roderick Matthews, of Philadelphia, Pa.

Following the wedding, a reception was held at the Matthews home for fifty friends and relatives. The couple returned to Elkader to their new home, where Dr. Knutson is in charge of an optical office.
