Reva Tomlinson 1924-2018

Reva Mae Tomlinson, the daughter of Ralph and Iva (Nafe) Allen, was born on August 22, 1924, in Washta, IA. She grew up on a farm near Washta, where she attended country school and then attended Quimby High School, graduating in 1941. She attended York College in York, NE where she studied Religious Education obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree.

On August 22, 1945, Reva married J.W. Tomlinson in Washta, IA. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Wisconsin and Nebraska for a couple of years before moving to Spencer. Reva enjoyed being a homemaker. Upon moving to Spencer, Reva started working at Spencer Construction and then Lakes Concrete. The couple divorced.

Reva married Ray Bargloff on December 15, 1965, in Spencer. The couple divorced a few years later. Reva then started and operated Spencer Building Supply for more than 33 years before retiring in 2005. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She held various roles on church committees, was the Sunday School Superintendent, served many years as church financial secretary and treasurer and was in the church choir. She was a member of the Small Business Association and Homebuilders Association. She was on the Advisory Board of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Iowa for several years. Reva enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling and music, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Reva passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Don; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Max and Mary Alice Allen, and Claire and Phyllis Allen.

Left to cherish her memory are her four sons and their wives: James and Barbara of Spencer, William and Janice of Spencer, Dean and Carol of Denton, TX and Danny and Sandra of Belton, TX; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Lowell and Elaine Allen of Cherokee, IA, and Verle and Kay Allen of LeMars, IA; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 10:30A.M., Saturday, January 20, at the First Baptist Church.
