Daniel R. Raymond, whose death occurred July 20th, 1899, of which brief notice was given last week, was born at Cohocton, in the state of New York, May 3rd, 1831; there he grew up and received his education. In 1849, he with his father and family, removed to Raisin, in the state of Michigan; there he spent his early manhood and was married to Miss Elizabeth B. Kelley, who, with one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Ayres, wife of Mr. C.T. Ayres and one son, Roy Raymond, of South Dakota, survive him.

In 1865 he came with his family to Iowa and settled in Eddyville. In 1868 he came to Osceola, Clarke county, Iowa. He was a millwright by trade and his life business was building and operating flouring mills. In 1868 he and J.W. Kelley built a large mill in Osceola and operated it with great success for many years which aided largely in building up trade and business in Osceola and surrounding country.

Mr. Raymond had remarkable energy and skill in his business, was a good financier, but misfortune came; his valuable mill property was totally destroyed by fire, resulting in great loss to him in his business. In 1884 he removed to Huron, in South Dakota, and there erected a large flouring mill and operated it for some years.

He was a member of the Congregational church, of Huron, South Dakota, and lived an upright Christian life. He was a kind hearted, benevolent man, a good neighbor, affectionate husband and father in the days of his prosperity gave liberally of his means for charitable purposes. He was a noble citizen, just and upright in all his ways. His memory will live and his works will follow him.
