William J., son of John Wesley and Amanda Thurlow, was born in Lacelle, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1868, lived his entire life nearby; departed Dec. 21, 1935, age 67 years, 10 months, 9 days.
He was married to Margaret A Pennock, March 14, 1894. To this union two daughters were born; Grace Helene Robb, deceased, and Hazel Esther Day. Besides his wife and daughter, he leaves a son-in-law, Emerson Day, who he loved as a son, a grand-daughter Gloria Carolyn Day, one brother S.M. Thurlow of Des Moines, four sisters, namely Mrs. Nannie Powers of Murray, Mrs. Allen Dutton of Des Moines, Mrs. Little Lewis of Osceola and Mrs. Dollie Calhoun of Des Moines; more than a score of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and a host of friends. Another sister Eva Hutsinpiller, passed away several years ago.

He had been a member of the Lacelle M.E. church for more than 40 years. He lived his profession in his everyday life, was a kind husband, deeply devoted to his family and his home. He was willing to help in the promotion of any good cause for the community in which he spent his entire life.

The funeral was held at the M.E. church in Osceola, Iowa, Monday afternoon, Dec.23, conducted by Rev. James Walls of Sharpsburg, former minister at Lacelle, Rev. Brooks of Osceola, assisting. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery.
