"Mrs. J.W. Miller Died - Passes Away at Her Home in This City Aged 74 Years - Amanda J., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Landsman, was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, August 29, 1843, and died at ther home in Osceola, Iowa, August 4, 1918, aged 74 years, 11 months and 5 days. She was united in marriage to John William Miller on the 23rd day of May, 1861. To this union four children were born, two dying in infancy, the two living are: John Wesley, who now is overseer at the county farm and Betty Davis whose home is four miles northwest of town. Brother and Sister Miller were married in Virginia, living there for seven years, then they moved to Illinois, living there for twenty-three years, and then moved to Clarke county, Iowa, settling on a farm four miles southwest of town where they lived for three years, when they took charge of the county farm where they lived for fifteen years, then moving to Osceola, some nine years ago where they have resided, enjoying a well earned rest. Brother and Sister Miller have journeyed through life together for more than fifty-seven years and in all this time in adversity and prosperity, in sickness and health, Sister Miller has constantly shared with her husband life's allotment and in the strictest sense has been a companion, wife and mother in the home. Sister Miller gave her heart to Jesus Christ when about sixteen years of age and united with the United Brethern church of which she has always been a consistent member. Some six years ago she with her husband became affiliated with the Methodist Protestant church of Osceola where they have continued to serve the Lord the best their age and infirmities would allow. Sister Miller was of a quiet disposition, perferring to let her light shine in the home life in a quiet way, yet nevertheless effective. She leaves to mourn her departure the husband of her youth, the two children above mentioned, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, besides other more distant relatives and many friends who mourn their loss. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist Protestant church at 2:30 p.m...August 8th, conducted by Rev. W. Cronk of Gladbrook, Minnesota, minister of the United Brethren church, assisted by Rev. J.C. Leonard, pastor of the church, and Rev. McKay, pastor of the M.E. church. After which the body will be laid to rest in the Maple Hill cemetery..." (Osceola Democrat, Osceola, Iowa, 8 August 1918, pg. 1)
