Mary Augusta Woods.

Mary Augusta Woods was born on a farm near Chariton, Iowa October 21, 1878, the fifth child and only daughter of Isaac N. and Augusta Woods, deceased.

At the age of ten, she came to Woodburn with her folks, receiving her education in the public schools, following which she served as clerk in the post office for many years.

In 1904, she entered Hahnemann hospital, Chicago, for a nurse's education, from which she was graduated a registered nurse in 1906. In that year, she began a nursing career which was to extend over a period of twenty-two years.

Her first years were devoted to private nursing in Chicago, after which she nursed out of Cedar Rapids for five years; then she was called by the visiting Nurses Association of Chicago in caring for the city's poor. After one year of this strenuous charge, she returned to private nursing for the next four years in Montgomery, Alabama; then, she continued her practice is San Francisco and Oakland-finally assuming charge of a San Fransisco Baby Shelter, caring for deserted babies.

In 1928, when failing health forced her retirement, she returned to the middle west to remain but a short while before making her residence in Zephyrhills, Florida, where death occurred March 5, 1934.

In passing, she leaves two brothers: John J. of Kansas City, and Clarence N. of Ogden, Utah. Her older brothers, Orin, Fred and James having preceded her in death. Nephews and nieces; DeWitt, Hazen, James L. Jr., Mary Helen, John Jr., James and Winifred.

The determination which so conspicuously characterized her active working life, was undaunted in the face of failing health-because it was the determination born of a deep-rooted faith in God, strengthened by the satisfaction coming from a life of useful service.
