James L. Woods.

James Lafayette Woods was born August 21, 1873, near Chariton, Lucas county, Iowa, the third son of Isaac Newell and Augusta A. Woods, deceased. Here on a farm, James was reared to manhood, In 1901, he was united in marriage with Florence Chambers and to this union, two sons were born, Talmage DeWitt, of McGregor, and James Lafayette Junior, of Bloomington, Indiana.

At the age of twenty years, he began his service as a salesman for an agricultural implement concern. Within a short while, he was connected with the John Deere Plow Company, of Moline, for whom he served thirty years continuously. In recognition of this long period of uninterrupted devotion to the company, he received a service medal last December. In 1913, shortly after Mr. Woods had moved from Cedar Rapids to McGregor, his calibre as a sales executive was appreciated by the John Deere Plow Company, when the position of Division Sales Manager was offered him, but his health did not permit him to accept it. So Mr. Woods continued his work in the northeastern Iowa territory until, now, the sixteenth year has expired. The many business associates and friends, with whom Mr. Woods has come in contact during his long period of business affairs. Wherever he was known, his integrity of character sounded the high note that endeared "J. L." to all.
