Dies May 11

Ernest Koble Woods, 66, Woodburn, died Monday, May 11 at the Clarke County Public Hospital in Osceola. Services were held Wednesday, May 13 from the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Neville Clayton officiating at the 1 p.m. rites. Interment was in the Woodburn Cemetery.

Ernest Koble Woods was born October 1, 1920 in Woodburn, Iowa, son of John Henry Woods and Emma Koble Woods. He attended schools in Woodburn and New Virginia and on December 14, 1946 was married to Dorothy Mason in Bethany, Missouri. Four children were born to this union.

He served as postmaster of the Woodburn Post office from 1957 to 1970 and was a rural mail carrier from 1970 until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the Rural Letter Carrier's Association, the South Central Fox Hunters and Herndon Oehlert Post #157 at Woodburn. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Osceola.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Woodburn; son, John Woods and wife, Janet of Osceola; son, Jerry Woods of Ankeny; son, Jim Woods and wife, Nancy of Creston; daughter, Janet Garton and husband, D. Wayne of Woodburn; six grandchildren, Jason Woods of Ankeny, Jodi and Mark Woods of Osceola, Jennifer and Thane Garton of Woodburn and Sara Woods of Creston; and one brother, Johnny Woods of Osceola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

Military honors were presented by Herndon Oehlert Post #157 of Woodburn in graveside rites.
