Jettie Martin dies May 15

Jettie Vivian Martin, 91, died Wednesday, May 15 at Des Moines General Hospital. Services were held Saturday, May 18 from the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Dennis St. Lawrence of Chariton officiating at the 11 a.m. rites. Interment was in the Woodburn cemetery.

Jettie Vivian Martin was born March 20, 1900 in Woodburn, daughter of Levi Line Martin and Mary Ann Bennett Martin. She attended schools in Woodburn and one year at the University of Iowa.

She was married to Clarence Martin on September 01, 1920 in Woodburn. The couple had no children.

She was a former teacher and cook at East Elementary School in Osceola.

She served for 13 years as chairman of the Clarke County Cancer Committee; held the post of church pianist at the Woodburn Methodist, Calvary Baptist and Grace Baptist churches as well as being a member of the World War I Barracks #3413. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Chariton.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; two brothers, Earl L. and Robert Bennett Martin; and two sisters, Ola M. Woods and Mary M. Wilson.
