Rites Wednes.

Clarence Alvin Martin, 90, a former Osceola resident, died at West View Acres in Leon Wednesday, December 25, 1985. Services were held Saturday, December 28 from Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Bruce Pickell of Chariton officiating at the 11 a.m. rites. Interment was in Woodburn Cemetery with members of Herndon Oehlert American Legion Post 159 of Woodburn assisting.

Clarence Alvin Martin was born April 15, 1895 in Woodburn, Iowa, son of Fred W. Martin and Anna Elizabeth Reese Martin. He attended schools in Clarke County and on September 1, 1920 was married to Jettie Vivian Martin.

He farmed for many years before retiring. He was a veteran of World War I, having served with the 4th Division; a member of Osceola Barracks No. 3413 and a former member of Herman Oehlert Post No. 159 of Woodburn and was affiliated with Grace Baptist Church in Chariton.

Survivors include his wife, Jettie; and two sisters, May Hanesworth of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Florence McCoy of Indianola, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray E., Lloyd E., Calvin B. and Harold, as well as a brother, Walter, who died in infancy.
