World War II Veteran Buried in Legion
Plot At Maple Hill; Was Killed
In Italian Campaign

Funeral services were conducted from the Webster Funeral Home, Sunday, August 29, for Charles Frame, who gave his life in the second World War near Salerno, Italy. Rev. John F. Ludden of the Foursquare church officiated. Burial was in the Legion plot at the Maple Hill cemetery.

Charles James Frame, eldest son of C. H. and Bertha J. Frame, was born at South Heart, North Dakota, October 10, 1912. He received his education in the public schools of New Virginia and Osceola, Iowa, having graduated from the Normal Training Dept. of the Osceola High School at 16 years of age, later attending Osceola Junior College.

He was a member of the Osceola Methodist Protestant church, always enjoying taking an active part in church activities.

On May 7, 1942, he was inducted into the armed forces of the nation at Ft. Des Moines, Iowa, took his training at Camp Robinson, Little Rock, Ark. He was selected for officer training and commissioned 2nd lieutenant Nov. 10, 1942 at Ft. Benning, Georgia; after a short furlough he was permanently assigned as instructor at Camp Croft, South Carolina, but asked for over seas service and arrived in North Africa in June 1943. He was assigned to Company G, 19th Infy., 45th Div.

In the invasion of Sicily and Italy he commanded a motorized company. He was reported killed in action the morning of Sept. 23, 1943 about 23 miles southwest of Salerno, Italy.

He was the 4th generation of the name to defend his country. The purple Heart and Presidential Citation were sent his parents along with letters from his superior officers.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Frame of Osceola; three sisters, Eliza Burchett of New Virginia, Iowa, Mary Miller of Flagstaff, Arizona and Adriana Schuster of Burlington, Iowa; one brother, Walter O. Frame of Osceola, Iowa; nephew David Burchett; nieces; Mercedese Miller, Rhonda Frame, Carol Ann Johnston, Sandra and Linda Frame and Lonna Schuster; also his uncle, W. O. Frame of Ft. Worth, Texas; and his aged grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Stoffels and family in Holland.
