OBITUARIES

LEONA MAY BURRELL

Leona May Burrell, daughter of John H. Chumbley and Ethel Wharff Chumbley, the eldest of 11 children, was born July 6, 1905, in Clarke County and died Jan. 3, 1999, at Osceola Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Osceola. She was 93.

Mrs. Burrell was educated in the Clarke County Schools. She married Nathan Burrell on Dec. 30, 1925, and they became the parents of six children.

A lifetime resident of Clarke County, Mrs. Burrell was a homemaker who loved to crochet, and work with her flowers. Because of failing health she moved to Osceola Nursing and Rehabilitation Center five years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan in 1994; two sons Duane and Vern; her parents; four brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Burrell is survived by two sons, Carl Burrell and his wife, Joan Burrell and Merrill Burrell and his wife, Ann Burrell, all of Osceola; two daughters, Lucille Reynolds and her husband, Wayne Reynolds, of Osceola and Donna Carson and her husband, John Carson, of Woodburn; eight grandchildren, Rick Burrell and his wife, Jackie Burrell, of Salt Lake City, Utah, David Burrell and his wife, Marissa Burrell and Mike Burrell and his wife, Patty Burrell, of Des Moines, Jane Sweeney and her husband, Tom Sweeney, of Granger, Lori Helgevold and her husband, Dale Helgevold and Christy Boor and her husband, Marian Boor, all of Osceola, Elizabeth Blubaugh and her husband, Jim Blubaugh, of Chariton and Sara Carson of Woodburn; 14 great-grandchildren, Jessica and David Burrell, Danielle, Brooke and Taylor Sweeney, Heather, Devon, Chantelle Burrell, Damon and Lee Ann Helgevold, Morgan, Bridget, Kyle and Dillan Blubaugh; a brother, Garold Chumbley and his wife, Betty Chumbley, of Milo; three sisters, Mabel Wilkinson of Virginia Beach, Va., Darlene Dixon and her husband, James Dixon, of Indianola and Doris Powell of Woodburn; a sister-in-law, Grace Chumbley of Osceola; other relatives and a host of friends.

Services for Mrs. Burrell were Jan. 6 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. L. Duane Churchman officiating. Organist Pennie Gonseth accompanied Liz Harger as she sang In the Garden and One Day At a Time.

Casket bearers were Rick Burrell, David Burrell, Dale Helgevold, Mike Burrell, Jim Blubaugh, Tom Sweeney and Marian Boor. Honorary bearers were David Burrell, Devon Burrell, Damon Helgevold, Kyle Blubaugh and Dillan Blubaugh. Interment was in Bethel Chapel Cemetery in Clarke County.
