Rites Saturday

74-Year-Old County Resident
Over 50 Years Died Thursday

Requiem mass was held at St. Bernard Catholic church in Osceola Saturday morning for Mrs. Elizabeth (Bessie) Davenport 74-year-old resident of Clarke county for more than half a century, who died Thursday at the Clarke county hospital.

Rev. Fr. Gerald Deere said the mass and burial was in the St. Mary's cemetery at Woodburn. Rosary service, was held Friday evening at the Webster Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Harken of Leon officiating.

The daughter of Nicholas and Margaret McCann Viertz, she was born Jan. 15, 1884 in Union county.

She was educated in the Union and Clarke county schools. At Chariton on Jan. 20, 1904, she became the bride of Roy Davenport, who preceded her in death.

For the past 59 years she had been a resident of Clarke county and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic parish at Woodburn.

Surviving are four sons , Merle of Osceola, Hallie of Des Moines, Cecil of Osceola and Keith of Webster City; three daughters, Mrs. Erma Danner of Osceola, Mrs. Gerald O'Neall of Osceola and Mrs. Floren Westbrook of Des Moines; 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; three sisters . Mrs. Harry Duree of Woodburn, Mrs. P. V. Fitzpatrick of Chariton and Mrs. Elmer Stapleton of Chula, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Kenneth, and a brother, Michael.
