W. J. Crosby

William Joseph Crosby, was born at Chariton, Iowa February 6, 1885, and died at his home near Woodburn, on March 23, 1919, age 34 years, 1 month and 17 days, after an illness of thirteen days with pneumonia, during which he bore his sufferings bravely, but all that medical aid could do were of no avail and the angel of death called him to the great beyond. On October 28, 1907, he was united in marriage to Ethel Gills, who with the two little children, Willie age 10 years and Florence age 8 years, are left to mourn the tender and loving care of husband and father. Besides these bereaved ones, he leaves his mother, Mrs. B. Shields, a brother, Bernard Shields, both of Chicago and a brother, John Crosby of Albia, Iowa, all of whom were at his bedside at the time of his death. Mr. Crosby was well known both in Clarke and Lucas counties having lived there all his life excepting 8 years in Chicago. He was a kind and indulgent father, a faithful and loving husband and will be sadly missed in home and community. The family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends. Funeral services were held at St. Marys church in Woodburn March 25, conducted by Rev. Sullivan of Chariton. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Art Gammon of Albia, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Shelton and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Crowe and Mary and Albert Steinbaugh of Chariton.
