Jennie D Farley Lane was born in Clarke county, Iowa. September 22, 1863, and died May 25, 1930 at the age of 66 years, 8 months and 3 days.

The deceased was the last surviving member of one of Clarke county's most widely known and highly respected pioneer families. She was the youngest of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. William T. Farley, who came to this county from Ohio in 1851. They settled on what has become known as the Farley homestead. It was on this farm that Jennie D Farley was born; and it was due to her sacrificing loyalty and devotion to tradition that the homestead is still held by the family. She was married to George W. Lane, a member of another Clarke county pioneer family, October 1, 1884. To them were born two children: Doctor Calvert Lane of Chicago, and Loretta, the wife of Mr. Earl D. Baker, both of whom are here to console and comfort their bereaved father.

As the youngest member of the family, the deceased did not experience the severe privations of the early pioneer. But her youth was so closely allied to the patriotic men and women who contributed much to the building of our community that the history of those pioneer days was ever fresh In her memory. She lived as though obligated to the task of transferring old-time loyalty and kindliness from the past to the present.

Her friends were legion. Her circle of acquaintances extended far beyond local borders, but we who knew her best, loved her most. She was a devoted wife, a helpful companion, an inspiring mother greatly beloved by her children and her four grandchildren.

Her presence was ever welcome in neighboring homes where a helping band was needed.

Mrs. Lane had been a member of the Osceola Christian church for thirty-five years, and her daily life exemplified the faith she had in her Redeemer. She was a life member of the Iowa Historical Association, the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs, and the local Adelphlan Chapter. For over thirty years she was actively affiliated with the county schools. Few among us have contributed more to the welfare of this community than did she and fewer still have lived a more active life than did this good woman for whom we mourn today.

As a tribute to her influence in carrying down family history and tradition and in living a life of self sacrifice there have come to pay respect the following nieces and nephews- Mr. and Mrs. Warren Eastman of Oak Park, Illinois; Miss Lora Headlee, Mr Floyd Headlee, Headlee Ranch, South Dakota; Mrs. Homer G. Phipps, Deadwood, South Dakota, Mrs. Grace C. Jones, Detroit, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Mrs. F. A Farley, Oak Park. III.; Mr. and Mrs. Lon V. Farley, Mr. and Mrs. John Farley of Osceola, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Farley and three daughters of Liberty. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F . Clare McCallon at the George Lane home, Thursday afternoon, May 29. Interment took place in Maple Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Lane passed away from injuries received when struck by an automobile as she was crossing the street, Sunday, May 26. O. C. Helck of Peterson, Iowa, was at the wheel of the automobile and on his way to Missouri called there by serious illness of Mrs. Helck's father.
