Raymond Howe Rites Wednesday

Fourth Son of Family Dies Within Year at Age 68 Years

Raymond Carl Howe, 68 year old resident of Clarke county for most of his life, died Sunday at the Clarke county hospital. He was the fourth son of the Howe family to die within the past year.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon in the Webster Funeral Home with Rev. Azel L. Smith, pastor of the Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in the Murray cemetery.

The son of Eugene and Imo Ellis Howe, he was born May 10, 1890, in Cass county, Iowa. He came to Clarke county as a youth and was educated in the schools here.

On Nov. 1, 1911, he was united in marriage with Berdella Fazel at Osceola. A resident of Clarke county for 57 years, he had been a farmer all of his adult life.

Surviving are his widow, four daughters, Thelma Page and Grace Brown of Osceola, Berniece Burchett of West Burlington, and Dorothy McVey of Des Moines; four sons, Howard of Prole, Orville of Macksburg, Russell of San Pablo, Calif., and Gerald of Orrick, Mo.; 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Beulah McComas of Osceola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Harold; daughter, Vera Louise; grandson, Donald Eugene, and four brothers, Earl, Raleigh, Leo and Marion.

Raymond Carl Howe

Raymond Carl Howe, son of Eugene E. and Imo C. Howe, was born in Cass county, Iowa, May 10, 1890 and departed this life at the Clarke county hospital in Osceola, Iowa, March 1, 1959, at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 18 days.

Except for a few years most of his life was spent farming in Clarke county. He united with the Frame Methodist church located near his home neighborhood.

On November 1, 1911 he was united in marriage to Berdella Fazel at Osceola, Iowa. To this union were born five sons, Howard of Prole, Iowa, Orville of Macksburg, Iowa, Russell of San Pablo, Calif., and Gerald of Orrick, Mo.; and five daughters, Thelma Page and Grace Brown of Osceola, Ia., Bernice Burchett of West Burlington, Iowa, and Dorothy McVey of Des Moines, Iowa.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Berdella, four sons, four daughters, four sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, 7 granddaughters, 13 grandsons, one great grandson, one grand son-in-law, and one sister, Beulah McComas of Osceola; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Harold; one grandson, daughter Vera, one daughter-in-law Marie, his father, mother, four brothers, Earl, Raleigh, Leo, and Marion.

Raymond was a good and loving father, and a thoughtful neighbor ready and willing to help at all times.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, March 4, at the Webster Funeral Home with Rev. Azel L. Smith officiating. Music was by Amy Ruth Harlan and Emil Rinderspacher.

Pallbearers were: John Welcher, Verne Smith, Milo Smith, Ernest Miller, Harold Smith and Clarence Clifton. Burial was in the Murray cemetery.
