Horse Racing—Broken Neck.
New Hampton Courier:—Two young men, George and Belcher Roethler, Jr., cousins, had been at Ionia delivering cattle, and returning home, they had a race, both being on horseback. Belcher Roethler’s horse was running so that he would strike a tree, and the rider leaned over and tried to guide his past it; in doing so, when the horse shied away from the tree, it brought Mr. Roethler in contact with it, and striking the tree with full force his head was crushed and neck broken, causing instant death. The accident happened about three miles and a half northwest of Ionia on Tuesday about four o’clock p. m.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows his name spelled Baltaser and that he was born Dec. 20, 1866 and died Jan. 15, 1895. He is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery. His father was Beltcher Roethler.
